Interpreting the Atmospheric Neutrino Anomaly

چکیده
We suggest that the atmospheric neutrino anomaly observed in the Super-Kamiokande (and other) experiments results from the combined effects of muon-neutrino to tauneutrino oscillations with a ∆m value of approximately 0.4 eV 2 and oscillations between muon neutrinos and electron neutrinos (and vice-versa) with 0.0001< ∆m < 0.001 eV . With an appropriate choice of a three-neutrino mixing matrix, such a hypothesis is consistent with essentially all neutrino observations.

Inconsistencies in Interpreting the Atmospheric Neutrino Anomaly
Inconsistencies in Interpreting the Atmospheric Neutrino Anomaly John M. LoSecco Physics Department, University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, Indiana 46556, USA Abstract. We note a discrepancy between the value of R expected on the basis of the muon neutrino angular distribution and the value actually observed. The energy independence of R leads to a fine tuning problem. This may be indicative of ...
متن کامل→ ν s oscillation solution to the atmospheric neutrino anomaly excluded by the superKamiokande data ?
Is the ν µ → ν s oscillation solution to the atmospheric neutrino anomaly excluded by the superKamiokande data? Abstract Recently the SuperKamiokande collaboration have claimed that their data exclude the ν µ → ν s solution to the atmospheric neutrino anomaly at more than 99% C.L. We critically examine this claim.

متن کاملAtmospheric Neutrino Tests of Neutrino Oscillation Mechanisms
Recent Super-Kamiokande data on the atmospheric neutrino anomaly are used to test various mechanisms for neutrino oscillations. It is found that the current atmospheric neutrino data alone cannot rule out any particular mechanism. Future long-baseline experiments should play an important role in identifying the underlying neutrino oscillation mechanism.
متن کاملProbing neutrino non–standard interactions with atmospheric neutrino data
We have reconsidered the atmospheric neutrino anomaly in light of the latest data from Super–Kamiokande contained events and from Super–Kamiokande and MACRO up-going muons. We have reanalysed the proposed solution to the atmospheric neutrino anomaly in terms of non–standard neutrino–matter interactions (NSI) as well as the standard νμ → ντ oscillations (OSC). Our statistical analysis shows that...
